Speaking in a press conference, Openjobmetis Varese GM Michael Arcieri has discussed the sudden sacking of coach Johan Roijakkers, with his words written by La Prealpina: “I will not share any details of what happened on Wednesday, nor of what has happened in the last three months. In our opinion Johan has crossed a line that for us should not have been crossed: the decision was inevitable. In my life I have been fired: it is a serious measure, I did not like having to do it, but it is a decision totally mine for which I take one hundred percent responsibility. I discussed the situation with Luis Scola and he was in complete agreement. The decision we made had nothing to do with basketball, it was inevitable in the face of what happened. There weren’t any post-match confrontation with Scola or with me, we were very happy with Johan for the way we played. I understand it’s a surprise because the revolution he brought made everyone happy, but what happened was a surprise for me too. Before the game there was no idea of changing coach: in these three months we had confronted Luis and Johan with differences of opinion, but these things happen when you build an organization, he was happy with the team and had not asked any new signing. I was very disappointed with his behavior, it is a difficult moment for me because I was the one who recommended him to Luis. It could not be done otherwise. We have been concerned about the standings situation since I arrived here in January. We want to win every match starting from tomorrow’s match with Tortona: there is a development project to be pursued and we are focused on that. We have a lot of confidence in Seravalli: he has been here since the beginning of the season, he knows the situation and the players well and what Johan did to overturn the situation. With him we will do the same things”.
