FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis welcomed UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin to FIBA headquarters this week to discuss various topics around team sports, including the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The discussion was focused on international club competitions and the need to protect the European model of sport.
The meeting, which also served to highlight the importance of sport’s contributions in today’s society, provided a platform for the two organizations to exchange ideas on how to develop and grow sport in Europe and beyond.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin welcomed the opportunity to visit the House of Basketball and was excited to see the Slovenia national team jersey of his countryman, FIBA EuroBasket 2017 MVP Goran Dragic, on hand at FIBA’s exhibition hall.
“UEFA and FIBA share common values, based on solidarity and open competitions,” said Ceferin, during his visit.
“There is a long-lasting, established partnership between UEFA and FIBA and we are a lot more than just neighbors,” Zagklis said. UEFA’s headquarters are located in Nyon, a few kilometers away from the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball. “We are proud to share the same values and to work together promoting them.”
