Tyrese Maxey scored a career-high 50 points in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 137-126 win over the Indiana Pacers. And of course, references to the James Harden trade were wasted on social media.
His previous top was 44 points against Toronto on 28 October 2022. The player dedicated his performance to Sixers wing Kelly Oubre Jr. who was hit by a car a few hours earlier.
“Don’t look at me,” Maxey said during the post-game interview. “It’s all about Kelly Oubre. We’re praying for him. I love my friend. I just met him, but I love him. I hope he gets better soon.”
“Joel wanted me to get to 50 more than I did,” Maxey later said. “When he gave me the ball, he said, ‘You have to shoot this ball.’ And that’s why I appreciate my teammates, my coaches and the fans. It was a great night and we got a great win, which is the most important thing”.
