Capital One Arena gets a taste of the show — 12 points, 6 assists on a minutes restriction, with early rust from deep

Trae Young’s first night in a Washington Wizards jersey delivered exactly what the D.C. crowd came to see: highlight creativity and elite playmaking — even with clear rust. Playing 19 minutes on a roughly 20-minute restriction in his first game since the January trade, Young posted 12 points and 6 assists in a 122-112 loss to the Utah Jazz.

The signature moment came nearly 21 minutes into the game: a pump fake beyond the arc, a drive, a behind-the-back pass fake and a tough scoop finish that sent Capital One Arena into a roar. Young went 1-for-5 from three, later admitting, “My shots were on line. I just didn’t have any legs under me.”

Young leaned into facilitation early, flashing no-look finds and live-dribble creation, while also acknowledging chemistry is still forming with new teammates. Defensively, Utah targeted him in ball screens and repeatedly got downhill, with coach Brian Keefe pointing to dribble penetration as the key issue as the Jazz knocked down 15 threes.
