Olimpia Milano big man Kaleb Tarczewski will not return to USA after the Italian club allowed all of its foreigners to leave.
Tarczewski wrote a piece on Il Corriere della Sera.
“When the virus exploded in Milan, I immediately thought of my family in the United States. But I have always known I was a part of a family there in Milan too and I would never leave this family because it needs me” the big man wrote. “Only if the season is cancelled I would think about leaving. Until that day, I will remain here”.
“I hope Trey Thompkins (positive for Covid-19) and actually everyone positive, will have a quick recovery. I feel close to him because he is a basketball player and there is always a sense of belonging that links us: when one of his is hit, we all feel hit”.
“I love going out and when I thought about being in my house for weeks, I felt devastated. But the quarantine was not to protect myself, but it was to protect the others. This sense of duty made quarantine easier to handle”.
“We have a task to not think about our interests but to think about humanity’s greatest good” the center added. “Everyone in our society has committed to certain goals and it would be nice to write the word end to this book. But this situation goes beyond basketball. It is important to follow the guidelines that are given to us, to respect them, even if it means having a season without an end”.
“I honestly can’t wait to go play again and continue the journey. It would mean that this nightmare is finally over.”
