Stephen Curry, battling a lingering right thumb injury, dismissed it as an excuse for his poor performance in the Golden State Warriors’ 118-108 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Curry shot 4-for-17 from the field, including 0-for-8 in the second half, matching the worst shooting half of his career.
“It sucks, but it’s not an excuse,” Curry said. “You’ve got to play through it. It’s just one of those things that gets knocked and lingers, but it shouldn’t bother me like it did tonight.”
The Lakers’ defense, led by Anthony Davis, who tallied 36 points and 13 rebounds, contested seven of Curry’s eight second-half attempts. “Our guards kept the pressure on him, and everybody played their part,” Davis said.
The Warriors, missing Draymond Green (calf) and Jonathan Kuminga (ankle), are in the middle of a pivotal stretch of games at home as they try to climb above .500. Despite his struggles, Curry remains focused, saying, “I’ll play through it, but I hope it clears up sooner rather than later.”
