Spurs: Gregg Popovich suffered a mild stroke, expected to make a full recovery

The team statement reveals that the episode occurred Nov. 2 at the Frost Bank Center.

The San Antonio Spurs have announced that coach Gregg Popovich has suffered a mild stroke.

The team statement reveals that the episode occurred Nov. 2 at the Frost Bank Center.

“Popovich, who has already begun a rehabilitation program, is expected to make a full recovery. A timeline for his return to the bench has not been established at this time. During this time, the organization is grateful to the community for providing privacy and space for the Popovich family.”

Popovich at 75 is the oldest coach in NBA history, as well as the coach with the most wins, five titles and a long series of records achieved in 29 years at the helm of the Spurs.

Assistant Mitch Johnson has replaced him on the bench, and will most likely remain the coach of the Texas team until his return.
