Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox to undergo season-ending surgery on pinkie

The star guard will shut down for surgery but is expected back for next season

De’Aaron Fox will undergo season-ending surgery on his left pinkie Tuesday, the San Antonio Spurs announced. Fox has played through tendon damage since injuring his finger during training camp in October while with the Sacramento Kings.

The decision was made to accelerate the recovery process and allow him to build offseason chemistry with the team. The Spurs expect him to be fully recovered for next season.

With the Spurs already missing Victor Wembanyama (shut down in February due to shoulder thrombosis) and Gregg Popovich (out since November after a mild stroke), San Antonio will finish the season without its key figures.
