Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra admitted fault for a critical error in the team’s 123-121 overtime loss to the Detroit Pistons.
With 1.1 seconds remaining, Spoelstra mistakenly called a timeout Miami didn’t have, resulting in a technical foul that allowed Detroit’s Malik Beasley to score the decisive free throw. “I made a serious mental error,” Spoelstra said.
“That’s on me.” The error overshadowed Tyler Herro’s outstanding 40-point game, including 10 three-pointers, in the NBA Cup opener.
