Panathinaikos AKTOR technical director Sani Becirovic spoke about the possibility of the Greens signing Ömer Yurtseven and the possible interest of NBA teams in Mathias Lessort.
ON THE PANATHINAIKOS MARKET
I think we did what was necessary for Panathinaikos after such a positive season: we kept almost the whole team. We have added Lorenzo Brown because we believe that alongside Kostas Sloukas, who has been a goalscorer and creator, we need another player like him in case of a bad day or, God forbid, an injury. We are still on the market for a big man. If the market offers the right one, it will be him. We are all looking forward to an even more stressful season because we know it is much easier to win a title than to defend it. But I believe the boys, from the first to the last, are ready for what lies ahead.
ON OMER YURTSEVEN
The truth has been written (about the interest). We have nothing to hide: he is one of the players we are interested in. There have been contacts, we have studied the case to see if he is a realistic option or not. But there is still some work to be done to reach an agreement.
ON LESSORT’S FUTURE
Mathias has shown that what he did at Partizan was not a fluke, but that he is a player who is improving from year to year. If Lessort used to be a player who relied on his energy and inspiration, he is now a truly dominant centre-forward. Not just in Europe, but worldwide. I am happy that he is still with us this year. Obviously, we want him to stay as long as possible and we will do everything we can to keep him. No, I wasn’t nervous about him leaving because he didn’t have a contract with the NBA. So I was pretty calm about it. There were also rumours that there was a lot of interest in him. The interest was there, but we never got into serious negotiations to make something happen, like with Yabusele for example”.
