Pistons sign Tyler Cook to multi-year contract

DETROIT – The Detroit Pistons announced today that the team has signed forward Tyler Cook to a multi-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Cook, 6-8, 255, signed a 10-day contract with the Pistons on March 18, followed by a second 10-day deal on March 28. He has appeared in 11 games with the Pistons averaging 4.0 points (63% FG), and 2.8 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game. Overall, Cook has seen action in 28 career NBA games with Detroit, Cleveland, Denver and Brooklyn and averaged 2.5 points and 1.7 rebounds.

Cook, 23, averaged 20.8 points (60% FG), 9.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists this season in eight games with the Iowa Wolves of the NBA’s G League. Overall, he’s averaged 14.6 points and 6.5 rebounds in 37 career G League games (18 starts).

The St. Louis, MO native played collegiately at the University of Iowa where he averaged 14.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in three seasons with the Hawkeyes.

Keon Johnson declares for NBA draft

Keon Johnson has decided to enter the 2021 NBA draft and hire an agent.

The player leaves Tennessee after only a season in which he averaged 11.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 25 minutes per game.

Per ESPN, “The NBA has always been my goal, but I never expected it to come this soon,” Johnson said. “I really don’t care what number I get drafted at. I just want to go somewhere I fit in that organization. Where I can keep developing and find my niche.”

The Sacramento Kings will become the first major sports team to offer all its players and staff the option to get paid in bitcoin, as announced on Monday by team owner Vivek Ranadivé on ClubHouse.

Thunder sign Jaylen Hoard to two-way contract

The Oklahoma City Thunder has signed forward Jaylen Hoard to a Two-Way Contract.

Hoard (6-8, 216) appeared in all 15 games (three starts) with the Thunder’s NBA G League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue this season, averaging 9.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 22.0 minutes per contest, shooting 49.1 percent from the field.

The French native spent the 2019-20 season as a two-way player for the Portland Trail Blazers where he appeared in 13 games and averaged 2.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 7.9 minutes per game. On assignment with the Texas Legends, Hoard saw action in 24 games (four starts) and recorded averages of 16.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 27.6 minutes, shooting 51.8 percent from the floor.

UNC to name Hubert Davis head coach

UNC is expected to name Hubert Davis as head coach after Roy Williams’ retirement.

Per 247Sports, Davis spent the past nine seasons as an assistant coach on Williams’s staff with responsibilities including recruiting, bench coaching and scouting. He also oversaw the squad’s charitable endeavors and clinics and spent six seasons coaching the Tar Heels’ JV squad.

The 50-year-old played for Dean Smith from 1988-92, helping UNC to the 1991 Final Four and to ACC Tournament titles in 1989 and 1991. He scored 1,615 points (11.8 per game) in 137 career games and still holds the UNC record for career 3-point shooting percentage (.435). Davis scored 25 points against the Williams-led Kansas Jayhawks in the 1991 Final Four and delivered a career-high 35 points at Duke on March 8, 1992. He earned second-team All-ACC honors as a senior in 1991-92 after averaging 21.4 points per game.

Justin Robinson is signing a ten-day contract with the Thunder.
The point guard spent the season in G League with Delaware averaging 15.5ppg, 3.4rpg and 6apg.

Milwaukee Bucks and Jrue Holiday Agreed To A Multi-Year Contract Extension

The Milwaukee Bucks and guard Jrue Holiday have agreed to a multi-year contract extension. As part of the agreement, Holiday declined his Player Option for the 2021-22 season. Holiday was acquired from the New Orleans Pelicans on Nov. 24 as part of a four-team trade.

The former UCLA guard this year is averaging 17.0 points, 5.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.82 steals, shooting a career-high 50.9% from the field to go with 39.0% from the three-point arc and 81.6% from the free throw line.

Rockets sign Armoni Brooks, waive Ben McLemore, Justin Patton

The Houston Rockets announced they’ve signed Armoni Brooks to a two-way contract. The team has also waived Ben McLemore and Justin Patton.

Brooks averaged 16.8 points per game in the NBA G League bubble with the RGV Vipers. He was announced as the new player of Orleans Loiret Basket in late March, but the team later said that he wasn’t going to land in France.

Scottie Lewis enters NBA Draft, signs with agent

Florida guard Scottie Lewis announced on Instagram that he will declare for the 2021 NBA Draft and forgo his remaining eligibility by hiring an agent.

The athletic guard ended his sophomore year for the Gators with 7.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.5 assist, 1.6 steals and 1 block per game.

Pelicans sign Isaiah Thomas to 10-day contract

The New Orleans Pelicans announced that the team has signed guard Isaiah Thomas to a 10-day contract.
Thomas, 5-9, 185, holds career averages of 18.1 points, 5.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game in 525 career regular season games (361 starts) over nine NBA seasons with Sacramento, Phoenix, Boston, Cleveland, L.A. Lakers, Denver and Washington.

Mike James aiming for NBA return, agency says

BDA Sports, the agency for EuroLeague star Mike James, confirmed the news that James has returned to the United States after being suspended indefinitely by CSKA Moscow.

The agency also adds that James – who is still under contract with CSKA – is aiming for an opportunity to make his return to the NBA this season. This was confirmed also by CSKA president Andrey Vatutin.

“James has the chance to be in an NBA team this season, or find a team in the NBA next year,” Vatutin said (h/t Dionysis Aravantinos). “With this scenario, it will be easier for us to come to a mutually beneficial agreement.”

James averaged 19.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game in the EuroLeague this season before the suspension.

He played in the NBA with the Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Pelicans in 2017-18.

Pelicans’ Josh Hart expected to be out for extended period

New Orleans Pelicans guard Josh Hart is expected to miss a significant amount of time due to a torn UCL in his right thumb, according to ESPN’s Andrew Lopez.

In addition to Hart, the Pelicans have been dealing with several injuries lately: Lonzo Ball has been sidelined since March 18th with a hip flexor strain, while Zion Williamson (right thumb sprain) and Brandon Ingram (right first MTP irritation) have both missed the last two games.
