Suns’ Mikal Bridges could make $20M per season with new contract in offseason

Phoenix Suns swingman Mikal Bridges will become eligible for a contract extension with the Phoenix Suns this offseason. According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, Bridges could sign a contract worth approximately $20M per season.

Suns will have also to evaluate a contract extension for big man DeAndre Ayton, while Chris Paul could exercise an option on his contract and become a free agent.

Hornets reportedly hopeful about LaMelo Ball, Malik Monk returning this weekend

According to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer, there’s hope within the Hornets that LaMelo Ball and Malik Monk can both play this weekend.

Ball and Monk will participate in full contact activities as the Hornets have two days of no games ahead of a back-to-back this weekend.

Both players have missed about a month of action. The Hornets are eighth in the East with 30 wins and 32 losses.

76ers plan to pursue Kyle Lowry in free agency via a possible sign-and-trade

The 76ers plan to make an offer to Kyle Lowry in the upcoming free agency.

Per The Athletic (via RealGM), The Toronto Raptors and 76ers held trade talks on Lowry at the deadline but no deal was consummated.

The Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers also tried to trade for Lowry at the deadline. The Heat are the only team of the three in position to possibly sign Lowry outright.

“Really good,” one general manager told The Athletic when asked about Lowry’s market. “There’s teams with money and not a lot of players, so I think he’s going to do really well.”

Spurs’ Derrick White expected to miss remainder of season with ankle sprain

The San Antonio Spurs will be without Derrick White for the remainder of the season.

Per ESPN, The San Antonio Spurs do not expect starting guard Derrick White back this season because of a sprained right ankle, coach Gregg Popovich said Wednesday.

White was injured in the Spurs’ win Monday in Washington. The fourth-year guard is averaging a career-best 15.4 points this season for San Antonio, which played 18 of its first 19 games this season without White because of a toe injury.

“You can imagine his spirits are not high,” Popovich said.

New York Knicks reportedly to make offer to Luca Vildoza

New York Knicks make the last offer to Luca Vildoza as reported by Chema de Lucas.

Knicks would like Baskonia point guard already for the end of this season.

Vildoza averaged 10.2 points, 3.5 assists and 1.6 steal this season in Euroleague.

 

Freddie Gillespie reportedly signing two-year deal with Raptors

The Toronto Raptors have decided to confirm Freddie Gillespie with a two-year contract, Shams Charania and Blake Murphy reports.
The rookie out of Baylor played 10 games during the two ten-day contracts signed with the Canadian team, averaging 5.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and a block.

Josh Giddey enters NBA Draft 2021

Australian prospect Josh Giddey announced that he’s entering the 2021 NBA Draft.
Giddey, currently ranked No.13 in ESPN’s Top 100, spent this season with the Adelaide 36ers.
In 23 NBL games the 2002-born guard produced averages of over 11 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assist.

The Sacramento Kings will sign center Damian Jones until the end of next season, reports ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Kings will release forward Chris Silva to make room for Jones

Former Warriors center averaged 3.8 ppg and 3.5 rpg during his two 10-day contract with Sacramento.

Magic release Robert Franks from 10-day contract

The Orlando Magic have signed free agent center Moritz Wagner (MORE-rhetz VOG-ner) for the remainder of the regular season, President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed. In addition, forward Robert Franks has been released from his 10-day contract.

Wagner (6’11”, 245, 4/26/97) played in 34 games this season (14 starts) with both Washington and Boston, averaging 5.6 ppg., 2.7 rpg. and 1.1 apg. in 12.8 minpg. He appeared in 25 games (13 starts) with the Wizards, averaging 7.1 ppg., 2.9 rpg. and 1.3 apg. in 15.0 minpg. Wagner was traded to Boston as part of a three-team deal on Mar. 25. He played in nine games (one start) with the Celtics, averaging 1.2 ppg. and 2.1 rpg. in 6.8 minpg. Wagner was waived by Boston on Apr. 16.

Originally selected in the first round (25th overall) of the 2018 NBA Draft by the L.A. Lakers, Wagner has played in 122 career NBA regular season games (24 starts) with the Lakers, Washington and Boston, averaging 6.5 ppg., 3.2 rpg. and 1.0 apg. in 14.1 minpg.

Wagner played in 107 career games (77 starts) during three seasons at the University of Michigan (2015-18), averaging 10.4 ppg. and 4.5 rpg. in 21.0 minpg. As a junior (2017-18), he played and started in 39 games, averaging 14.6 ppg. and 7.1 rpg. in 27.6 minpg., while shooting .528 (216-409) from the floor and .394 (63-160) from three-point range. Wagner was named to the 2017-18 All-Big Ten Second Team and was later named the Most Outstanding Player at the 2018 Big Ten Tournament, leading the Wolverines to the Big Ten Conference Tournament championship. He also earned 2018 NCAA West Region All-Tournament Team honors and the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team, helping Michigan reach the NCAA Championship game.

Wagner will wear #21 with the Orlando Magic.

Franks (6’7”, 255, 12/18/96) played in seven games with the Magic, averaging 6.1 ppg. and 2.0 rpg in 14.4 minpg. He originally signed a 10-day contract with Orlando on Apr. 12, then a second 10-day contract on Apr. 22.

Magic’s Devin Cannady underwent surgery to clean out his dislocated right ankle

Devin Cannady of the Orlando Magic underwent surgery on Monday to clean out his dislocated right ankle, though tests showed he did not fracture it as originally feared.

A series of exams including X-rays, a CT scan and MRI showed that Cannady’s bones and cartilage remained intact, the Magic said. Cannady dislocated the ankle and suffered a severe lateral ankle sprain during Sunday night’s game against Indiana, a gruesome injury after which he needed to be removed from the court on a stretcher.

Cannady will not play again this season. The Magic said a plaster splint was applied to the ankle on Monday and that the former Princeton guard is expected to make a full recovery.

Cavs’ Larry Nance expected to miss remainder of season

Larry Nance of the Cleveland Cavaliers is expected to miss the remainder of the season with broken thumb.

Per ESPN, Nance’s injury was one of several suffered by Cleveland players, leaving the Cavaliers short-handed for Monday night’s game against Toronto in Florida. The Cavs lost 112-96.

Guard Matthew Dellavedova was ruled out Monday with a neck strain and after receiving four stitches when he was accidentally head-butted. Also, center Isaiah Hartenstein and forward Lamar Stevens suffered concussions against the Wizards.

Leading scorer Collin Sexton missed Sunday’s game with a concussion he got last week in Charlotte. He also was ruled out again Monday night, and there’s no timeline on a return.

Rockets’ John Wall expected to miss remainder of season

John Wall of the Houston Rockets is likely done for the remainder of the season with hamstring strain.

Per ESPN, According to sources, Wall’s injury is a Grade 2 hamstring strain, which has a typical recovery time of approximately three weeks. With the Rockets eliminated from playoff contention, the team has no intention of rushing Wall back.

Wall averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists while shooting 40.4% from the floor in 40 games this season for the Rockets, who have the NBA’s worst record at 15-46 in the first year of a rebuilding project on the heels of trading longtime franchise cornerstone James Harden.

NBA dealing with COVID-related referee shortage less than a month from Playoffs start

Ten NBA referees, including veteran officials typically assigned to the NBA Finals, are sidelined because of issues related to COVID-19 and, in one case, an injury, a league official told ESPN.

Most of the absences have been tied to contact tracing, according to the spokesperson, who added that the league expects all 10 of the referees currently sidelined to be available for the playoffs, which start in less than a month.

Magic rookie Devin Cannady suffers an open fracture of his right ankle

Devin Cannady of the Orlando Magic suffered an open fracture of his right ankle in the first quarter when he landed awkwardly while trying to contest Edmond Sumner’s layup. Magic center Mo Bamba was so shaken by the sight of the injury that he took his jersey off and placed it over Cannady’s badly broken and bleeding ankle.

“Sickening. First, of all [Cannady] is a good guy who has worked his tail off to get better,” said Tyrone Corbin, who directed the Magic with head coach Steve Clifford out after testing positive for COVID-19 on Saturday. “It’s just sickening to see him go down like that. We’re praying for him.”

The former Princeton star was set for surgery Sunday night.

Simisola Shittu will sign a 2-way contract with the New York Knicks, Ian Begley reports.

The forward out of Vanderbilt, who will replace Myles Powell, averaged 14.5 points and 10.1 rebounds for the Westchester Kinicks in the G League Bubble.

This year Shittu played also 3 preseason games with the Chicago Bulls.

 

Grizzlies reportedly signing Tim Frazier for the rest of the season

The Memphis Grizzlies are signing Tim Frazier until the end of the season.
The pointguard out of Penn State was completing a 10-day contract with the Grizzlies.
Last year Frazier averaged 3.6 points and 3.4 assist for the Detroit Pistons.

Indiana Pacers sign Amida Brimah to two-way contract

The Indiana Pacers announced Friday they have waived two-way player Brian Bowen II. In addition, the team has signed Amida Brimah to a two-way contract.

This year Brimah played 10 games for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, with averages of 8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks.
