No time frame for Kawhi Leonard’s return

Kawhi Leonard missed the seventh straight game and is expected to miss also Monday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers due to a knee injury. Leonard started individual workouts but there is no timetable for his return.

Leonard missed the entire 2021-2022 season with a torn ACL.

Per ESPN, “There’s really not a time frame of when he is going to be back,” Clippers coach Ty Lue said when asked if Leonard’s status is considered more week-to-week than day-to-day now. “The biggest thing is just the testing that he has to go through with the medical and the slow progression of just getting better every single day. And so we’re just taking it day by day right now, not really a timetable.”

Ben Simmons’ name comes up in talks between Nets and Western Conference team

The Brooklyn Nets are on the market for a shooter and in the talks with a Western Conference team the name of Ben Simmons came up.

Per SNY, Just which players Udoka will be coaching is an open question at this point. GM Sean Marks said on Tuesday that the current roster needs an upgrade.

“I’ll be the first to tell you, there’s certainly holes (in our roster). We’re not a finished product,” Marks said. “We’re not playing up to our expectations, the way we should be.”

So you can expect the Nets to pursue trade opportunities ahead of the February deadline. In the days before Saturday’s brutal loss to the Indiana Pacers, the Nets had been in cursory talks with one Western Conference team about a deal that would return a veteran shooter, per SNY sources.

Ben Simmons name came up in the talks, sources say.

It’s unclear if talks advanced past the cursory stage, but Brooklyn was said to be aggressive in its pursuit of perimeter shooting.

And that was before the club fired Nash. So it’s reasonable to expect the team to take an aggressive approach in the trade market.

Brooklyn Nets and Head Coach Steve Nash Agree to Part Ways

The Brooklyn Nets and Head Coach Steve Nash have agreed to part ways. A decision regarding the team’s next head coach will be made in the near future.

“We want to thank Steve for everything he brought to our franchise over the past two-plus seasons,” said General Manager Sean Marks. “Since becoming head coach, Steve was faced with a number of unprecedented challenges, and we are sincerely grateful for his leadership, patience and humility throughout his tenure. Personally, this was an immensely difficult decision; however, after much deliberation and evaluation of how the season has begun, we agreed that a change is necessary at this time. We wish Steve, Lilla and their family all the best in the future.”

Brooklyn Nets Governor Joe Tsai said, “I’ve gotten to know Steve during his time in Brooklyn, and he is not one to shy away from challenges. My admiration and respect for him grew over time as he brought hard work and positive attitude to our organization every day, even in periods of exceptional storm surrounding the team. Clara and I want to thank Steve, Lilla and their family for making this extraordinary commitment. We began this journey as colleagues, we part as friends.”

Jacque Vaughn will be on the bench for tonight’s game against the Bulls.

Wiseman: When I got injured I cried so hard I couldn’t even get to my mom’s apartment

James Wiseman said he was crushed when he suffered the meniscus injury in April 2021 that kept him off the court for more than a year and an entire NBA season.

Per Uproxx, “When I first got injured, I was crying so hard I couldn’t even get to my mom’s apartment,” Wiseman recalls. “My mom had to carry me to her apartment. I was just crushed. Having a lot of nights where I was crying a lot, like a lot of times where I had thoughts like …” he trails off for a minute, eyes glancing through rain-flecked, floor-to-ceiling windows high up in a quiet room on the top floor of Chase Center. Outside, a dense cover of fog has rolled in with the morning, like clockwork, swallowing up the long freighters lolling in the Bay.

“It was difficult,” Wiseman remembers. “Even personally, like trying to go use the restroom, or get up, it was super difficult.”

Another outlet Wiseman took to was journaling. His therapist recommended keeping a journal with him every day for “self inventory, or self reflection.” He found the tangible process of putting his thoughts to paper gave him a sense of mental clarity, and more than that, a needed outlet. “I had so many thoughts and emotions, and being a man, they teach you to try to hold your emotions in, coming from the status quo society. But coming from a real man’s perspective, you gotta express yourself,” Wiseman says.

Whether through opening up or seeing his thoughts and feelings so neatly laid out, that outlet roused another creative release for Wiseman: making music. “What’s crazy is the music stuff, I wasn’t really invested in it. I was more invested in just writing,” he says with a smile. “It just became a song.”

The San Antonio Spurs have waived Josh Primo, the 12th pick of the 2021 NBA Draft, on Friday.
The news was a real surprise considering the potential of the Canadian player.

Per ESPN, The San Antonio Spurs’ release of guard Joshua Primo — the No. 12 pick in the 2021 NBA draft — stemmed from multiple alleged instances of him exposing himself to women, sources told ESPN on Saturday.

In a statement to ESPN on Friday night, Primo acknowledged a need to continue “mental health treatment more fully.”

“I know that you all are surprised by today’s announcement,” Primo said in the statement. “I’ve been seeking help to deal with previous trauma I suffered and will now take this time to focus on my mental health treatment more fully. I hope to be able to discuss these issues in the future so I can help others who have suffered in a similar way. I appreciate privacy at this time.”

Primo averaged 5.9 points in 54 career games for the Spurs, including 16 starts as a rookie.

Bucks in talks with Suns for Jae Crowder

The Milwaukee Bucks are interested in Jae Crowder, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Bucks and Suns recently engaged in trade talks surrounding the veteran forward. The Atlanta Hawks, Miami Heat and Boston Celtics have all been mentioned as potential landing spots for Crowder too. For now, Crowder remains away from the Suns, as Phoenix works on finding a trade partner.

Milwaukee has a few different trade avenues to land the 3&D combo forward. Most would involve the Bucks parting with at least one rotation player, but Crowder could give them the defense and floor spacing they’ve lacked at the forward spot since losing P.J. Tucker in free agency before last season.
