Detroit Pistons guard Quentin Grimes will miss the rest of the season to rehab lingering muscle soreness related to knee injury suffered in January, reports The Athletic’s Shams Charania. No surgery required and bone bruise in knee has healed. Grimes will be eligible for an extension prior to next season.

The Atlanta Hawks could trade Capela in the upcoming summer

The Atlanta Hawks could continue to trim their salary cap next summer and try to trade center Clint Capela. According to a report by Grant Afseth of NBA Analysis Network, the franchise would be willing to give Onyeka Okongwu more minutes in that role, in part because his results have not been great in recent years. Capela will make $22.3 million next season, and his contract expires in the summer of 2025. As a result, the Atlanta Hawks will try to trade the Swiss center.

Capela is averaging 11.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game this season.

Isaiah Thomas reportedly returning to Suns on 10-day contract

The Phoenix Suns have decided to bring Isaiah Thomas back to Arizona on a 10-day contract, Shams Charania reports.

The 2-time All Star, who was out of the NBA since the 2021-22 season, had just joined the Salt Lake City Stars.

Thomas scored a total of 130 points (44 percent from three on 56 attempts) in 4 G League games.

According to John Gambadoro, the 35-year-old point guard is expected to have a good chance of staying until the end of the season.

Thomas will be an option in case of injury in the Suns’ backcourt.

 

Pistons signing veteran forward Taj Gibson for rest of season

Veteran forward Taj Gibson is signing a deal for the rest of the season with the Detroit Pistons, his agent, Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Friday.

Gibson, 38, is expected to sign on Saturday. He joined the Pistons last week on a 10-day deal after being waived by the New York Knicks in early January.

76ers reportedly signing Kai Jones

The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed with Kai Jones on a 10-day deal, Shams Charania reports.

Jones was the No.19 pick of the 2021 NBA Draft.

The Texas product played 67 games (2.7 points, 2 rebounds) in two seasons with the Charlotte Hornets.
The Hornets released the 23-year-old big man last October.

Orlando Magic to extend coach Jamahl Mosley

The Orlando Magic are locking up coach Jamahl Mosley with a contract extension through 2028.

The news was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Florida team is currently fifth in the Eastern Conference with 37 wins in 65 games, in the midst of the race for home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Mosley has built an excellent defense (5th in the NBA with 11.3 points allowed per 100 possessions). In addition, Banchero and co. are performing very well in games at the Kia Center, with 21 wins in 30 games.

The San Antonio Spurs are converting two-way F Dominick Barlow to a standard NBA contract, reports ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Barlow – undrafted in 2022 – has played 51 games in his two Spurs seasons.
