“Plenty of interest” by Phoenix to re-sign Aron Baynes

There is “plenty of interest” by the Phoenix Suns to re-sign Australian center Aron Baynes, according to The Athletic’s Zach Harper.

Baynes, who had a breakout season in 2019-20, is expected to receive interest from multiple teams in free agency, and could likely command the mid-level exception: for a tax-payer team, this would mean an offer between $6M and $6.5M per year.

Rajon Rondo to reportedly receive offers from Atlanta, LA Clippers

Lakers guard Rajon Rondo, now a free agent, is expected to receive an offer of $15 million over two years from the Atlanta Hawks, but he is focused on joining the Los Angeles Clippers for which he could sign for the mid-level option, as reported by Frank Isola.

Rondo declined his $2.62 million option with the Los Angeles Lakers, who has moved to acquire Thunder guard Dennis Schröder.

Michael Jordan reportedly gives his approval for Hornets to pick LaMelo Ball at no. 3

Michael Jordan has “given his stamp of approval” for the Charlotte Hornets to select LaMelo Ball at No. 3 if he’s available and the team keeps the pick, according to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.

While Ball is considered by some to be best prospect in the draft, he would be an awkward fit for both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors. Additionally, Charlotte is no longer believed to be seriously considering Onyeka Okongwu at No. 3.

Warriors reportedly infatuated with Deni Avdija, willing to trade down

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly “infatuated” with Deni Avdija, sources told Connor Letourneau of the San Fransisco Chronicle.

The Warriors see Avdija as comparable to Danilo Gallinari, and could trade down to draft the 19-year-old.

“If the Warriors move outside the top three picks, they’d likely eye Israeli small forward Deni Avdija, who can guard multiple positions and slide into a secondary-playmaker role. According to a league source, Golden State has become ‘infatuated’ with Avdija’s skill level and believes he can develop into a Danilo Gallinari-type,” Letourneau reports.

Bulls offered Wendell Carter jr and pick no. 4 for Warriors’ pick no. 2

The Golden State Warriors are considering whether to accept an offer from the Chicago Bulls of the No. 4 pick and Wendell Carter Jr. for the No. 2 overall pick, sources tell Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.

The Bulls could target James Wiseman if they’re able to move up. If Chicago stays at No. 4, it is believed they will decide between Deni Avdija and Patrick Williams.

Hawks reportedly interested in Gordon Hayward

The Atlanta Hawks have interest in acquiring Gordon Hayward, who has a player option for 20-21 worth $34.2 million, reports Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

The Hawks could acquire Hayward via a sign-and-trade, but they could also sign him outright at they have $44 million in cap space. The Celtics agreed to extend Hayward’s deadline for his player option to Thursday.

Rockets want a proven, young star and massive picks package for James Harden

The Houston Rockets are not in a hurry to trade Russell Westbrook and James Harden that wants out of the team.

Both players have three years remaining on his contract with the final year as player options.

Per ESPN, The Rockets are demanding an especially steep return for Harden, a perennial MVP candidate who has led the NBA in scoring the past three seasons: a proven, young star as a centerpiece along with a massive picks package, according to sources. Houston does not feel obligated to deliver Harden to the Brooklyn Nets, his preferred destination, sources said.

The Rockets also understand that Westbrook, for whom Houston gave up Chris Paul, two first-round picks and two pick swaps last summer at Harden’s urging, would not command the same type of trade return as Harden. However, Houston is unwilling to deal Westbrook without receiving assets such as young talent or first-round picks.
