Official: Theo Maledon returns to ASVEL

ASVEL strengthens the backcourt with the return of Theo Maledon.

The point guard leaves the NBA after four seasons with career averages of 7.7 points and 2.9 assists.

Maledon is the sixth player signed this summer by the French club, following Ajinca, Harrison, Black, Sako and Schofield.

 

Second round pick Kyle Filipowski signs four-year, $12 million deal with Jazz

The Utah Jazz have announced the multi-year contract signed by Kyle Filipowski, big man picked at No.32 in the last NBA Draft.

The former Duke standout, 16.4 points and 6.8 rebounds at the Las Vegas Summer League, got a four-year, $12 million deal, guaranteed for the first two years.

Filipowski will earn more in his rookie season than the last 12 players selected in the first round.

Brandon Boston Jr joins Spurs

Brandon Boston Jr is a new player of the San Antonio Spurs.

The 22-year-old forward from Kentucky is coming off 3 seasons with the Clippers (5.2 points in 10 minutes last year).

The Texas team already has 15 guaranteed contracts and 3 Two-Way Players, so Boston Jr will have to enjoy a great training camp to get a spot in the group that will start the next regular season.

ASVEL reportedly in advanced talks with Theo Maledon

ASVEL is finalizing the last details for the return of Theo Maledon after four seasons in the NBA.

The news was reported by Gabriel Pantel-Jouve.

The 23-year-old point guard was selected by the 76ers with the No. 34 pick of the 2020 NBA Draft, and then traded to the Thunder after a few months.

Maledon produced 10.3 points and 3.4 assists per game as a rookie, numbers that will remain his career highs.

He moved to the Hornets on a Two-Way contract, but without convincing the team enough to grant him a permanent roster spot.

Last year Maledon played 13 games with the Hornets and 4 with the Suns.

Once his return is finalized, ASVEL will look to complete the roster with a big man.

Trent Forrest signs two-year deal with Baskonia

Baskonia announced the arrival of Trent Forrest  with a deal until 2026.

The club has acquired the services of the 1.94m tall American guard, who arrives in Spain after four seasons in NBA between Utah Jazz and Atlanta Hawks (2.2 PPG, 2.4 APG last year).

With the arrival of Trent Forrest, Baskonia adds a valuable piece to the team that in the coming weeks will start the preseason under the orders of Pablo Laso.

 

Lauri Markkanen, Utah Jazz reportedly agreed to a rich multi-year extension

Lauri Markkanen will continue to defend the colors of the Utah Jazz at least through next season, according to a report from The Athletic.

In fact, the Finnish forward has agreed with the team on a rich contract extension, but it will not be announced by today, the last day to allow for a possible trade to another team before the trade deadline.

Markkanen’s new contract, set to start from 2024-25 thanks to the ‘renegotiation-and-extend’ formula and the Jazz’s cap space, will exceed 200 million total over five seasons.

Markkanen in two seasons with the Jazz has produced 24.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game, shooting 49 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 88 percent from the foul line.

 

Philadelphia 76ers targets Davis Bertans

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking for a veteran shooter with size to complete the bench. Marcus Morris seems to be the leading candidate, but the Sixers are also considering Davis Bertans.

After being waived by the Charlotte Hornets last season, Bertans is an unrestricted free agent. The veteran forward spent last season with the Oklahoma City Thunder before being traded to the Hornets at the contract deadline.

The Latvian centre produced 13 points in the last ACB season with Palencia as well as 4.7 rebounds.

Chuma Okeke reportedly joining Knicks

The New York Knicks have reached an agreement with Chuma Okeke, reports Michael Scotto.

The forward selected by the Orlando Magic at No. 16 in the 2019 NBA Draft spent five seasons in Florida, averaging 6.3 points and 3.7 rebounds, but with a minor role in 2023-24 (2.2 points in 9 minutes).

It is unclear what kind of contract the former Auburn man will sign, but he will most likely be at the Knicks’ training camp to convince Thibodeau to give him a roster spot for the regular season.

Cleveland Cavaliers extend Jarrett Allen

Cleveland Cavaliers centre Jarrett Allen has agreed to a three-year, $91 million contract extension that will provide a total of $131 million over the next five years, as reported by his agent Derrick Powell to ESPN.

Allen is co-presented by Jim Tanner of Tandem Sports.

Yuki Kawamura to join Grizzlies on Exhibit 10 deal

23-year-old point guard Yuki Kawamura has agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The news was announced by his Japanese team, the Yokohama B-Corsairs.

Kawamura is competing in the Olympics with the Japanese national team, yesterday he scored 29 points with 6 assists against France, but also committed the controversial foul that allowed the hosts to grab the overtime.

Last year in the B-League, the point guard put together averages of 20.8 points and 8 assists.

 

Luke Kennard reportedly signing one-year, $11 million contract with Grizzlies

Luke Kennard and the Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to a one-year, $11 million contract, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Kennard has knocked down 48 percent of the long-range shots attempted in 63 games with the Grizzlies.

Adding $11 million puts the team’s payroll about $900,000 (via Capsheets) over the Luxury Tax threshold (about $170.8 million), but the Front Office will most likely avoid paying the tax with a minor trade before the trade deadline.

The player comes from a 46-game season with the San Antonio Spurs.

Tyus Jones reportedly joining Suns

The Phoenix Suns, always working to improve the roster, have reached an agreement with the best free agent still without a team, point guard Tyus Jones.

The news was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski, while John Gambadoro had mentioned the Suns’ interest in the former Duke point guard.

Jones last season produced 12 points and 7.3 assists – against just one turnover-  per game for the Washington Wizards.

Josh Christopher signs Two-Way deal with Heat

Josh Christopher, fresh off his MVP award in the Championship game in Las Vegas, has signed a Two-Way Contract with the Miami Heat.

The guard from Arizona State ended Summer League with 19.3 points, 2 steals, and 1.8 assists in 25 minutes, shooting 54.1 percent from the field, 52.5 percent from three-point range, and a perfect 15-of-15 from the free throw line.

Christopher, selected in the first round (24) by the Houston Rockets in the 2021 NBA Draft, spent last season in the G League between the Salt Lake City Stars and the HEAT-affiliated team, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

The Heat also announced the release of Zyon Pullin.

Mets de Guaynabo sign Trey Burke

Trey Burke is a new player of the Mets de Guaynabo, as announced by the Puerto Rican team.

The point guard – 9 NBA seasons with career-averages of 9.6 points and 3 assists – will replace the injured Gabe York.

Burke last year scored 19.7 points with 1.8 steals per game in G League with the Mexico City Capitanes.

Orlando Robinson to join Kings

The Sacramento Kings have agreed to a one-year contract with Orlando Robinson, reports Adrian Wojnarowski.

The big man performed well at the Las Vegas Summer League averaging over 14 points and 9 rebounds in 23 minutes per game for the Houston Rockets.

Robinson comes from a two-year stint with the Miami Heat.

Tom Thibodeau reportedly signing multi-year extension with Knicks

The New York Knicks have reached an agreement with coach Tom Thibodeau on a contract extension that will keep him in the Big Apple until the end of the 2027/28 season.

The news was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski.

After finishing second in the East last regular season and reaching the second consecutive Conference semifinals in the playoffs, the Knicks strengthened the roster with the arrival of Mikal Bridges, the new deal of OG Anunoby and the extensions of Jalen Brunson and now coach Thibodeau.

At least one big man is probably missing, but the Knicks have everything in place to remain at the top of the Eastern Conference next season.

Andrew Nembhard signs an extension with Indiana Pacers

Andrew Nembhard has reached an agreement with the Indiana Pacers for a three-year contract extension at $59 million.

Nembhard, who is playing with the Canadian national team at the Paris Olympics, averaged 14.9 points and 5.5 assists on 56% shooting in the Pacers’ run to the conference finals.

Reggie Jackson to join 76ers after buyout with Hornets

Reggie Jackson has agreed to a buyout with the Charlotte Hornets, and will join the Philadelphia 76ers once he clears waivers.

The news was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 34-year-old point guard comes from a season and a half with the Denver Nuggets (2023 NBA champion).

Jackson ended the last regular season with 10.1 points and 3.7 assists in 22 minutes per game.

At the 76ers he will strengthen a backcourt that for now can count on Tyrese Maxey, Kyle Lowry, Eric Gordon and rookie Jared McCain.

NBA teams to pursue Carlik Jones

Partizan Mozzart Bet may lose Carlik Jones to interest from several NBA clubs. Jones, who has impressed with the South Sudan national team, was selected as Partizan’s new point guard.

However, according to Mark Stein, NBA teams are monitoring the player and could sign him by Thursday, the deadline to enforce his contract with the Serbian club. If that does not happen, Jones will begin his adventure with Partizan.

Philadelphia 76ers signs Jeff Dowtin Jr. to a two-way contract

The Philadelphia 76ers have signed guard Jeff Dowtin Jr. to a two-way contract.

Dowtin averaged 17.1 points and 5.7 assists in NBA Summer League for the 76ers this season after playing 12 games for Philadelphia in 2023-24.

Sam Hauser reportedly signing four-year, $45 million extension with Celtics

The Boston Celtics have reached an agreement with Sam Hauser on a four-year, $45 million extension.

The news was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski.

The sharpshooter, who will earn about 2 million next season, in 2023/24 produced 9 points in 22 minutes shooting 42 percent from three on nearly 6 attempts per game.

This is the third extension signed by the defending champions, following those of White (125 million in 4 years) and Tatum (315 in 5).

In 2025/26 the Celtics will have a payroll of about 225 million, plus another 210 expected in Luxury Tax. The total – 435- should be enough to take away from the 2024-25 Suns the title of most expensive team in NBA history.

In addition, by exceeding the Second Apron again (set around 208 million), the Celtics will not be able to trade the 2032 and 2033 first-round picks.

The plan of the Front Office is clear, barring marginal changes this will be the group for the next few years.

 

Evan Mobley extends with Cleveland Cavaliers

Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers has agreed to a five-year contract extension for $224 million, which could rise to $269, as reported by ESPN.

Cavaliers had a productive summer, also signing Kenny Atkinson as new coach and Donovan Mitchell to a three-year extension at $150.3 million.

Russell Westbrook to join Nuggets after Clippers-Jazz trade

Clippers and Jazz have agreed to a trade involving Russell Westbrook, who will join the Denver Nuggets after the Jazz release him and buy out the remainder of his contract.

In return, the Clippers will receive Kris Dunn from the Jazz on a three-year contract for $17 million. U ah will receive a trade pick in the second round of the 2030 draft, the rights to Balsa Koprivica and $4.3 million in cash.
