Zhou Qi signs two-year deal with South East Melbourne Phoenix

Zhou Qi, the Chinese big man selected by the Rockets in the second round of the 2016 Draft, is a new player of South East Melbourne Phoenix.

The 2.17 center signed a two-year contract, with a player option in the second year of the deal.

Last year  Zhou Qi produced over 20 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks per game in CBA.

Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer: “Zhou is an absolute superstar in China and to have him in the NBL is enormous. Zhou joining the NBL will literally add millions and millions of eyeballs to our team and the league”.

Kaiser Gates joins Hapoel Jerusalem

Kaiser Gates is a new player of Hapoel Jerusalem, the Israeli team announced.

The power forward out of Xavier played the Las Vegas Summer League with the Brooklyn Nets, averaging 6.7 points and 5 rebounds in 4 games.

Last year Gates played 12 games (9 ppg, 5.7 rpg) with the Long Island Nets.

Olimpia Milano extends Shavon Shields

Olimpia Milano and Shavon Shields reached an agreement to extend the player’s contract until 2023.“I’m happy and thankful for the opportunity to continue with Olimpia Milan for two more years. Insieme!”, Shavon Shields said. “We knew that Shavon Shields was the right player and person for our team, and one year later we can say that the facts matched our expectations, so we are glad to be able to announce, before the original contract expiration date, that Shavon will continue to be part of our team,” Olimpia’s general manager Christos Stavropoulos said.

In his first season in Milan, Shavon Shields helped Olimpia win the Supercup by averaging 10.3 points per game, he then helped the team win the Italian Cup too. In the Munich EuroLeague game, he made the winning three-pointer with nine seconds left in overtime. He set his new career-high of 34 points when Olimpia defeated Bayern in Game 5 of the EuroLeague playoffs. He also had 41 of index rating, another personal best, like the 11 free throws made in that game. He was eventually named the EuroLeague MVP of the week. He finished the season averaging 13.8 points per game, 4.0 rebounds and shot 43.2 percent from three. He was also named to the All-EuroLeague second team. In the Italian league, ha set his personal best of points (35), three-pointers (seven) and rating (37).

Brisbane secure Chinese International Chuanxing Liu

The Brisbane Bullets are pleased to announce they have secured Chinese International, Chuanxing Liu – or “Big Liu” as he likes to be known – for the NBL22 season.

Standing at a commanding 7’5, Liu will be the tallest player in league history. His offensive efficiency and ability to be a defensive deterrent in the paint will bring an extra dimension to the Bullets roster.

Liu has signed under the NBL’s Special Restricted Player provision allowing the Club, and the league, to continue to build on strong relationships within the FIBA Asian region.

Liu is a member of the Chinese national team, having played in this year’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament and Asia Cup Qualifying Tournament.

The 24-year-old most recently played in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) for the Qingdao Eagles, where he averaged 9.7ppg, 8.3rpg and 1.1 bpg, shooting 66% from the field during the season. As the Eagles starting Centre, his output increased to 17.5ppg and 13rpg and 2.5 bpg during the playoffs. He was also selected to play in the 2021 CBA All-Star Game.

The former Arizona forward, who was the No.40 pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, spent last year with Darussafaka.

Franklin is considering making the move to the EuroLeague for this season after spending seven years in China where he posted stellar numbers, including multiple 40-point and 50-point triple-doubles, and a historic quadruple-double in 2019-20. He will play his last game in Malaga’s jersey, the team he won his only ACB title, against Real Madrid.
Cabezas won FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2006 and Eurobasket in 2009 plus a silver medal in 2007.
