Janis Strelnieks joins AEK Athens

Janis Strelnieks is a new player of AEK Athens, as announced by the Greek team.

The Latvian player arrives from Zalgiris Kaunas where he averaged 7 points in LKL and 6.5 points in EuroLeague.

Strelnieks signed a one-year contract.

Era Nymburk signs Eric Lockett

Era Nymburk announced the signing of Eric Lockett.

The 26-year-old wing comes from Aris Thessaloniki, where he was among the best defenders in the Greek league. Eric Lockett signed a one-year contract with the Era Nymburk.

“Eric plays very well and quickly to the basket, but we were particularly impressed by how he works for the team even without the ball and especially by his defense, which gives us many more options defensively. He reminds me of Howard Sant-Roos with his game and I’ll leave it to the fans to judge for themselves,” said Nymburk sports director Ladislav Sokolovský.

The Atlanta native went through Chipola, Florida International and North Carolina State universities, where he played with Torin Dorn, who played for Jindřichův Hradec in the KNBL last season.

He started his professional career in Qatar for Al-Rayyan, where he was among the best players with averages of 16.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He then headed to the British league, where he wore a Bristol jersey and averaged 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4.2 assists.

He then spent last season in Aris Thessaloniki, where he was primarily a defensive specialist. For his defensive performances, the fans even voted him the second best defender in the entire Greek league after Thomas Walkup from Olympiakos. He averaged 22 minutes per game and collected 6.1 points, 4 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

Lockett is the fourth signing of the Czech team.

AJ Ogilvy retires at 34

Big man Andrew AJ Ogilvy announced his retirement at 34.

Per NBL, Illawarra Hawks veteran Andrew Ogilvy has called time on his basketball career.

The 34-year-old announced his retirement via Instagram on Sunday night, ending a seven-year tenure at the Hawks.

“The time has come for me to hang up the boots,” Ogilvy said.

“Thank you to the Illawarra region for welcoming me into the community and being home for the past 7 years. It’s been real.”

Ogilvy, played 218 NBL games and was a three-time All-NBL First Team member, in 2014, ’16 and ’17.

‘AJ’ boasts career averages of 9.9 points and 6.6 rebounds, across his time at the Hawks and Sydney Kings.

Ogilvy spent time in Turkey, Spain and Germany early in his career, before coming to the NBL as a 24-year-old in 2013.

Illawarra Hawks add George King

The Illawarra Hawks have secured the signature of American forward George King for NBL23.
Originally drafted to the NBA by the Phoenix Suns, King boasts significant experience in the G-League, with averages of 13.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists in his most recent season at the Agua Caliente Clippers.
He has also played at Dolomiti Trento in the EuroCup, as well as Enea Zastal BC Zielona in the Polish League and VTB League.
Illawarra coach Jacob Jackomas said the club was pleased to lock in its second import.
“We’re excited to have someone with King’s international experience join our young core group,” Jackomas told the team’s website.
“He gives us elite shooting and defending on the perimeter and we believe he will complement the other guys on the team.”

King joins Tyler Harvey, Sam Froling, Daniel Grida, Alex Mudronja, Akoldah Gak, Wani Swaka Lo Buluk, Deng Deng, Lachlan Dent and Mangok Mathiang on the Illawarra Hawks’ 2022/23 roster.

His addition will go a long way towards filling the void left by the departing Duop Reath, Antonius Cleveland and Xavier Rathan-Mayes.

Dekker spent 2021-22 in Turkey with Bahcesehir, where he produced over 13 points and 6 rebounds per game between BSL and FIBA Europe Cup.

The Akron product spent last year in Spain with Fuenlabrada, where he produced 10.8 points (40% from long range on 6.2 attempts per game) and 4.7 rebounds in 27 minutes.

Croatian prospect Tomislav Buljan reportedly signing multi-year deal with Joventut Badalona

According to Encestando, Joventut Badalona has finalized the signing of 19-year-old Tomislav Buljan on a multi-year contract.

The Croatian prospect averaged 15.7 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2 steals per game in the Under-20 European Championship this summer.

Buljan is expected to play next season on loan with Prat in Leb Oro.

Tyler Stone joins Rapid Bucharest
