Joffrey Lauvergne inks with Zalgiris Kaunas

Zalgiris fans will see yet another new face in green-and-white, as the Lithuanian champions have signed a one-year deal with French center Joffrey Lauvergne.

The 28-year-old has spent his last two seasons with Fenerbahce, and has also tried his hand in the NBA, where he represented the Denver Nuggets, Chicago Bulls, Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs.

Before his run in the NBA, Lauvergne also played for Elan Chalon, Valencia Basket, Partizan Belgrade and Moscow Region Khimki

Last season, the 211 cm hooper averaged 6.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 13 minutes of action in the EuroLeague.

His stats were better in the Turkish league, as he dropped 10.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 22 minutes of playing time on a nightly basis

The newly minted Zalgiris man was also an important member of the French national team. He claimed a gold medal in EuroBasket 2013 in Slovenia, and followed it up with bronze medals in the FIBA World Cup in 2014 and EuroBasket 2015.

Lauvergne becomes Zalgiris’ fourth addition of the off-season, as he joins Tomas Dimsa, Steve Vasturia and Marek Blazevic.

Kyndahl Hill joining Syntainics MBC

Former Weber State forward Kyndahl Hill has reached an agreement on a deal with Bundesliga club Syntainics MBC, sources told Sportando.

Hill spent the 2019-20 season with BC Kyiv, averaging 10 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 24.4 minutes per game in Ukraine’s Superleague. He also averaged 10.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 25.1 minutes in the FIBA Europe Cup.

London Lions extend Justin Robinson

London Lions announce the two-time BBL MVP, Justin Robinson has signed for a further two years as the Lions embark on a European challenge.

Robinson was leading his team on the way to defending their League Championship and an unprecedented three MVP’s in a row when the season was cut short by the pandemic.

Voted League MVP by the BBL Coaches in 2018 and 2019, the former Brixton Topcat, a prodigy of the late, great Jimmy Rogers, attended Blair Academy after which he clocked a stellar American college career at Rider University averaging 15.3 points and 3.8 assists per game in his senior year as captain.

After an impressive six-year basketball career across Europe, which included playing for GB at Eurobasket 2013, London Lions Head Coach Vince Macaulay persuaded the London born point guard to return home and play for his team. Robinson averaged just short of 17 points and 5 assists a game whilst leading the Lions charge this past season.

Robinson says “I feel really excited to be back at the Lions for my fourth year. This year is even more exciting with the team playing in Europe, It’s a massive opportunity to showcase the BBL and British talent. With the team assembled, I think we have a great chance of making noise. I’m thankful for the opportunity to be home with the Lions once again”.

Coach Vince Macaulay added “As Justin enters his fourth season with us, I can only really speak of his commitment to the game in this country, his desire for young Brits to see an opportunity at home and then his ability to be successful, whilst doing the right things. He is a true professional and the culture at the club is largely down to him and his work ethic. Having him in the side as we embark on this next historic step by the Club means we all know, we will be fine”.

Fans will get to see the team for the first time on the 15th of September, opponents, yet to be decided as the Basketball Champions League draw takes place this Wednesday the 15th of July, live at 10am on our facebook page.

Olimpia Milano signs Zach Leday to two-year contract

Olimpia Milano agreed on a 2-year contract with Zach LeDay, 2.02 mt., power forward, born on May 30, 1994, in Dallas, Texas, coming from Zalgiris Kaunas. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity to come to the city of Milano and begin working with such a great organization and along side great players and coaches – LeDay said -. I’m ready to get to work, setting the goals high and doing what it takes to win.” “Zach is a versatile, physical player, full of energy, young but already EuroLeague-tested: We couldn’t be happier to have him in Milan as a part of our family,” Olimpia’s general manager Christos Stavropoulos said.

HIS CAREER – Raised in Dallas, Zach LeDay attended the Skyline High School and moved to The Colony High School before his senior year. After spending two years at South Florida, he transferred to Virginia Tech for his last two college seasons. During the first year, he averaged 15.5 points per game and grabbed 7.9 rebounds per game. In his senior season, he averaged 17.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. In 2017, he was included in the All-ACC Tournament second team. In 2017, he began his professional career in Israele, playing for Hapoel Gilboa where he averaged 19.5 points per game (second leading scorer in the Israeli league) and 8.2 rebounds (fifth overall). He was second for index rating and blocked shots. The following season, he moved to Olympiacos Piraeus. In the EuroLeague, he averaged 9.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game (11.2 points and 4.9 rebounds in the Greek league). In 2019 he moved to Zalgiris Kaunas where he averaged 11.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in his second EuroLeague season and conquered both the Lithuanian championship and National Cup.

NOTES – He appeared in the Israelian All-Star Game during the 2017/18 season. He was the Round 10 EuroLeague’s MVP during the 2018/19 season. At Olympiacos, his general manager was Christos Stavropoulos.

Zach LeDay leaves Zalgiris after successful season, he will join Olimpia Milano

Zalgiris big man Zach LeDay will be suiting up for a new team this upcoming season. He is set to leave Kaunas after drawing a lot of interest with a terrific showcase in last year’s EuroLeague campaign. The American has decided to use the buy-out clause in his contract to leave Zalgiris.

The 26-year-old joined Zalgiris from Olympiacos Piraeus last summer, and quickly became one of the team’s go-to weapons.

LeDay averaged 11.8 ponts, 4.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists and an efficiency rating of 13.2 in 22 minutes of action on the floor in the EuroLeague.

He played six minutes less on the national front, but still managed to average 11.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 14.6 efficiency per game.

Zalgiris has already said their goodbyes to Edgaras Ulanovas and the coaching staff: Sarunas Jasikevicius, Darius Maskoliunas, Tomas Masiulis and Justinas Grainys. Meanwhile, the team has signed Tomas Dimsa, Steve Vasturia and Marek Blazevic.
