Rudy Gobert was very critical of the referees both during and after the Minnesota Timberwolves’ overtime loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers. When he was called for his sixth foul, Gobert showed the “money” sign to the officials on his way to the bench. The referees called the French center back on the court to give him a technical foul, which obviously helped the Cavs in such a close game.
After the game Gobert spoke about an often-avoided topic, sports betting.
“I made some mistakes. I air-balled a dunk. Mistakes happen. Referees make mistakes, too. But sometimes I think it’s more than mistakes. I think everyone that’s in this league knows. I think it’s got to get better.”
Gobert said he fully expects to be fined for his comments and for being “the bad guy again that speaks what I think is the truth.”
But he said he felt compelled to speak his mind because “I think it’s hurting our game.”
“I know the betting and all that is becoming bigger and bigger, but it shouldn’t feel that way,” Gobert said.
Statements that will most likely cost the Timberwolves center a hefty fine, but the NBA has yet to comment on the matter.
Listen it was dumb, but Rudy Gobert getting a T for making the money gesture is hilarious pic.twitter.com/tHuff6CxZa
