Rick Carlisle reaches the 1,000-win milestone after a month of struggles

Rick Carlisle finally reached a historic milestone, earning his 1,000th NBA coaching victory as the Indiana Pacers defeated the Charlotte Hornets 114-112 on Thursday night. Carlisle becomes the 11th coach in NBA history to reach the mark and the first since Doc Rivers in 2021.

The achievement comes after a brutal stretch that included 13 straight losses, the worst streak in the Pacers’ NBA-era history, and a season heavily impacted by injuries. The win was sealed by Pascal Siakam’s late basket and a key steal by T.J. McConnell, before Charlotte missed the potential tying shot.

“I’m happy for our players,” Carlisle said after the game. “The last month has been extremely challenging, but this group kept fighting.” An NBA champion with Dallas in 2011, Carlisle now owns a career record of 1,000 wins and 891 losses, cementing his legacy among the league’s all-time great coaches.
