Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey sustained a severe injury to his left leg in the fourth quarter of a 105-96 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.
The injury occurred as Orlando’s Cole Anthony slipped while both players chased the ball. Anthony’s momentum carried him into Ivey’s planted leg, sending the 22-year-old to the floor in visible pain. Detroit’s medical staff quickly attended to him, shielding the crowd’s view with towels, as players from both teams formed a circle around Ivey.
After a lengthy delay, Ivey was taken off the court on a stretcher with a towel covering the injured leg. Anthony, visibly shaken by the incident, was consoled by teammates and opponents.
“It is tough for all of us,” Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said postgame. “There’s no better person or teammate than J.I., and no one cares more about this than he does. I give the guys credit for getting it done—they didn’t want to let him down.”
Ivey led the Pistons with 22 points.
