No EuroLeague club has ever done what Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens and Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade are about to achieve.
The two sides will play a friendly match in Australia, according to Partizan president Ostoja Mijailovic.
The game’s September release date is the only verified information thus far.
“It’s a unique project. It’s meant to last for years, not just one tournament,” Mijailovic told Mozzart Sport. “We are negotiating to organize tournaments around the world every year in places where there are Greek and Serbian nationals.”
“Several million Greeks live in Australia, and there are also many Serbs. Both clubs have great international potential; fans spend tens of millions of euros on tickets. There’s significant potential to generate additional revenue,” Mijailovic continued (via Basketnews).
Partizan president argued that teams must look for new ways to generate income, and such an idea is a prime example.
“People might not realize how expensive everything is and how much money is needed to keep things running month after month. Money has to be earned; clubs need to generate their own income,” Mijailovic noted.
“They can’t rely on handouts – they need to have independent revenue streams. One such project is this collaboration with Panathinaikos. We are strongly connected to Australia through many players, from Jock Landale to Dante Exum, who will surely want to attend the game,” he concluded.
