The Panathinaikos AKTOR administration has completed the most significant private investment ever made by a basketball club in a sports facility, transforming OAKA into one of Europe’s most modern arenas.
Under the directive of Dimitris Giannakopoulos, renovations addressed structural deficiencies, fire safety, insulation, and licensing issues. The club has already spent €22.9 million, with an additional €5 million earmarked for a new training facility, Panathinaikos Museum, and a second VIP lounge, bringing the total investment to €27.9 million.
The report debunks claims of state funding, emphasizing that Panathinaikos fully financed the renovations, including €2 million for the roof’s structural reinforcement and €1.2 million for HVAC maintenance.
The improvements fall into three categories:
- Infrastructure repairs – ensuring safety and compliance.
- Facility upgrades – enhancing aesthetics and functionality.
- Future projects – further modernization initiatives.
