Panathinaikos GM Sani Becirovic criticizes FFP: “Why do we have to adapt to smaller clubs?”

Panathinaikos GM Sani Becirovic polemicizes on the EuroLeague's financial fair play: these are his statements.

Panathinaikos GM Sani Becirovic gave an interview to the microphones of Mozzart Sport, in which he criticized the new financial rules of the EuroLeague, especially the Financial Fair Play. Below are his statements.

Becirovic’s words: “I have mixed opinions about the new rules. Of course I understand what EuroLeague is trying to do, which is to increase the uncertainty and the level of competition in the league, and I agree with EuroLeague on that, but EuroLeague already has a good quality of basketball. It is obvious how uncertain and on the edge everything is in this league. So yes, next season we will definitely have problems with the new rules. Our goal is to not pay the luxury tax, so we will have to make changes and adapt to the new rules. It looks like we will have to adapt to the smaller clubs. If we, Panathinaikos, can create such a budget with our marketing, with our ticket revenues, with our arena revenues, why should we be penalized for that? With the new rules we will have to adapt to teams that don’t have a president like us, that don’t have the business model that we have. Maybe the quality of our product will go down. We had two good seasons in a row as Panathinaikos, I feel that next season we will have to take a step back just to adapt to others. Why should someone be prevented from spending money? I think the minimum budget should be 17 million euros. Encouraging other teams to spend more would have changed the quality of the league”.
