Pallacanestro Reggiana announces that it has reached an agreement for the 2024/2025 football season with American athlete Jaylen Barford.
A 191-centimetre guard, class of 1996, Barford came out of Arkansas College in 2018. After a brief stint in the G-League, his first experiences in the pros were in Italy, with the jerseys of Pesaro and Cremona. In 2021, he moves to the VTB League at BK Astana: after a 23-point average first part of the season, he is signed by Lokomotiv Kuban, where he will stay until the end of the championship that just ended.
In two and a half seasons with the Russian club, he scored more than 1400 points, twice reaching the VTB League semifinals and once the final.
Last season he produced an average of 13.6 points in 49 games, between the regular season and playoffs, with 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals in an average of 23 minutes of usage, with a high of 33 points against Kazan on 2 March.
Coach Dimitris Priftis commented on his arrival: ‘Jaylen is one of those players who can, with his qualities, decide the outcome of a game. This is because he can score in so many different ways, he is very gifted in one-on-one situations and in transition. And he also has a good impact in the defensive half of the field. I think he will bring us strength and physicality and his contribution will be of great help to us. The goal is to incorporate him into our system and our team chemistry, so we will all work hard together on that.
These are the words of Jaylen Barford: ‘I am excited to return to play in Italy and I feel really honoured to have the opportunity to do so for an important and titled club like Pallacanestro Reggiana. I know the history and tradition of this square and my goal is to arrive in Reggio to continue it in the best way possible’.
