The president of Partizan Belgrade gave an interview with Kurir, in which he talked about the possibility of seeing Partizan Belgrade (and Red Star) permanently in the EuroLeague with a multi-year license. However, the meeting between the parties failed, at least for the time being, because of the conditions set by the EuroLeague, which Mijailovic said were not fair. Below are his statements.
Mijailovic’s words: “At the meeting with EuroLeague, our financial model was evaluated as an excellent partnership. This was the basis for a multi-year contract with EuroLeague. However, it seems unrealistic to me to think that we should pay an annual fee of millions of dollars without being able to receive any compensation from TV rights and without being able to become a shareholder as the owner of EuroLeague. We are one of the most famous and popular clubs in Europe. For more than seven years we have been working on the financial stabilization of the club: today it does not owe a penny to anyone and fulfills all its financial obligations. Business conditions should take into account the value that clubs like Partizan bring to the EuroLeague”.
