Pallacanestro Olimpia Milano announces it has reached an agreement with David McCormack, a 2.08 centre, born July 2, 1999 in New York, coming from Galatasaray Istanbul.

DAVIDMcCORMACK – “I’m excited to join a traditionally winning club with the chance to learn a lot from teammates much more experienced than me and from a coach with a great reputation. I will try to do whatever it takes to help the team continue to win.”

CAREER – Born in New York but raised in Norfolk, Virginia, McCormack attended Norfolk Academy and then Oak Hill Academy, also in Virginia. In his senior year, Oak Hill closed 30-4 by winning the state title. In 2018 he arrived at the University of Kansas where he played 132 games in four years with 96 appearances in the quintet. In his third year he scored 13.4 points per contest, as well as capturing 6.1 rebounds, being included in the second All-Big 12 quintet and also winning the award as the most advanced player in the entire conference. In his fourth year, he scored 10.6 points with 7.0 rebounds captured on average, winning the NCAA title with Kansas. He scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the semifinal against Villanova; he scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the final won against North Carolina. That same season he led the Big 12 conference in offensive rebounds and was third-team All-Big 12. In the 2022/23 season he played for Besiktas (9.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, 56.3% from the field); in 2023/24 he was first at Darussafaka and then at Galatasaray (14.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, 60.1% from the field in the Turkish league; 13.2 points and 6.8 rebounds in the BCL).

NOTES – In the six games of the 2022 NCAA Tournament he scored 13.1 points per contest and was included in the ideal quintet of the competition. Before devoting himself solely to basketball, he played high school football and practised shot put and discus. He played in the 2018 McDonald’s All-America Game, the competition reserved for the best high school players.
