Olimpia Milano agreed on a two-year deal with Naz Mitrou-Long, born in Missisauga, Ontario, Canada, on August 2, 1993, 1.90 mt tall, coming from Germani Brescia. “Naz Mitrou-Long convinced us not only for his efficiency on the court, but also for the spirit he shows on the court. Getting to know him, we identified the correct traits necessary to fit in our team,” Olimpia’s general manager, Christos Stavropoulos said. “When people think of this Olimpia organization they think of excellence. So, I’m very excited to compete for this historic club. There’s no goal too high when it comes to Olimpia Milano and I’m thankful and motivated for just that reason. I can’t wait for playing game one, already.”
WHO’S MITROU-LONG? – Naz Mitrou-Long started to play the game at the St. Martin High School in Mississauga. He was one of the best Canadian prospects and moved to the U.S. in 2010 to attend the Findlay Prep High School in Las Vegas leading the team to a 28-4 record. During the following season, he played for Montrose Christian Academy in Rockville, Maryland. In 2012 he moved to Iowa State where he played 131 games, 83 of them as a starter. During the2015/16 season, he appeared in only eight games because of an injury and obtained one more season on college eligibility. In 2016/17, he averaged 15.1 points per game, with 4.6 rebounds. For three years he was a member of the Utah Jazz organization, then moved to the Indiana Pacers. Overall, he played 20 NBA games.
He moved to Italy last summer and signed for Brescia. Over 29 Italian league games, he averaged 16.5 points, 4.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game, shooting 36.4 percent from three-point range. During the playoffs, he was the best scorer (24.4 points per game) and led the league in assists (7.2).
NOTES – Mitrou-Long’s mom is a Greek from Sparta, who moved to Canada at an early age, his dad Jersey Long is from and was a professional kickboxer. He has three brothers, including Elijah Mitrou-Long, a University of Texas former player and eventually a pro in Europe.
