Olimpia Milano star Nikola Mirotic granted an interview to Real Olimpia Milano, talking about several topics.
His first impressions of the new group:
“Without a doubt, this year we have much more physicality… We signed Josh Nebo, David McCormack at the five position, then Diop, Brooks, Bolmaro, Neno, all more physical guys, even at the point guard position. I think we have a lot more physicality. So, first of all, we will be better in defense, rebounding, and also in transition. It’s nice to talk about it, but now it needs to be shown on the court, which is the goal. So far, we’ve played some friendly games, we won them, but we need more time to train. The team right now looks very good, very excited, very hungry to do great things.”
The upcoming EuroLeague season:
“I like the fact that the EuroLeague owners are investing in the clubs. Look at Panathinaikos, who just won the EuroLeague. Usually, teams keep their core and don’t acquire many players, but they added three more superstars, I would say. So they want to get back there, they want to win again. Olympiacos, Real Madrid, everyone. Now they’re more excited. They want to get to the Final Four. So when I think about Milano, when I think about how we didn’t make the playoffs last year, it makes me sad because it was the first time in my life that I didn’t make the playoffs. It was really tough. So, definitely, I think Milano needs to be a playoff team. I’m talking about the top six positions. So that has to be our goal.”
In his first season at Olimpia, the Montenegrin forward produced excellent numbers in the top European competition: 16.9 points and 5.6 rebounds in 26 minutes per game, shooting 52% from the field, 42% from long range, and 84% from the free-throw line.
