The NBA is considering the idea of incorporating the results of the NBA Cup into post-season seeding. After the success of the inaugural NBA Cup, which increased interest and competitiveness in early-season games, the NBA may be ready to take the next step.
A proposal has been made to make advancement in the NBA Cup the primary criterion for determining playoff seeding. The Board of Governors will consider the proposal and it is expected to be voted on.
Options on the table include making it the primary tiebreaker, overriding head-to-head results, or making it the second tiebreaker immediately after head-to-head results.
