The race for the 2026 NBA MVP is now down to three names. The league has officially named Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets as the finalists.
For Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning MVP, the nomination follows a season in which he averaged 31.1 points and 6.6 assists on 55% shooting. Wembanyama posted 25 points and 11.5 rebounds in 29.2 minutes, while Jokic delivered 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists, becoming the first player ever to lead the NBA in both assists and rebounds.
Among the other award finalists, Wembanyama is also up for Defensive Player of the Year, Gilgeous-Alexander is a finalist for Clutch Player of the Year, and the rookie finalists include Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel and VJ Edgecombe. The NBA said the winners of the regular-season awards will begin to be announced this week.
