NBA Betting Guide 2022

The NBA is sometimes referred to as one of the easiest sports to bet on

The NBA is sometimes referred to as one of the easiest sports to bet on. Predicting the outcome and handicapping on a nightly basis, can give you a HUGE advantage in making yourself a profitable sports bettor. Some key things to note is you want to always pay attention to any changes in the lineups. Rest and injuries occur all of the time and you usually don’t find these things out until the last minute. You will also want to make sure that you pick and choose your spots to bet on teams that are tired and have been on long road trips. The NBA is such a fast paced up and down style. If one team is just flat out tired, it is very likely they will not be hitting shots and start to get lazy on defense. This gives you a great opportunity to take advantage of live bets or checking the schedule to know when to fade a certain team. Now is a great time to take a look at all of the NBA Betting Odds as we inch closer to the start of preseason.

We are going to look at all of the different wager types that you will find in betting the NBA. You will want to familiarize yourself with these terms and how they work before betting on the NBA.

Moneyline:

The moneyline is a bet on the team that you think will win the game. The odds are going to be adjusted depending on how good or how bad a team is. An example of this would be the Suns -850 playing the Rockets +650. Obviously the Suns are going to be heavily favored, so you can’t expect to find tremendous value on a top dog playing a bottom feeder.

Spread:

This is the most popular bet you will find in the NBA.Spread betting is essentially where you are betting how far apart the final score is. You may end up seeing something similar to this.

Suns -6.5

Pelicans +6.5

If you are picking the Suns, they would need to win by 7 or more points. If you were taking the Pelicans, they would have to lose by 6 points or less.

Totals:

You will learn that totals are referred to as over/under. You are betting on the total number of points that will be scored in this game. If the over/under is set at 217.5, then the total points for both teams would need to be at least 218 for the over to hit. For the under to hit, both teams would need to combine for 217 points or less.

Player Props: This is betting on an individual player. Player props have nothing to do with the outcome of a game and what happens. You are solely betting on a player’s production. Some examples of player prop bets are.

  • Three Pointers
  • Points
  • Rebounds
  • Assists
  • Steals
  • Points + Assists
  • Points + Rebounds
  • Points + Rebounds + Assists

You may see something similar to this as well.

  • LeBron James over/under 27.5 points
  • Steph Curry over/under 3.5 Three Pointers
  • Nikola Jokic over/under 13.5 Rebounds
  • Luka Doncic over/under 7.5 Assists

I cannot stress how important it is to pay attention to line movement, injuries and schedules. These are where you have the best opportunity to become profitable in the NBA. Keep in mind, the books are going to juice these plays, so it is extremely important to maximize getting the best odds on a particular play.
