According to sources who spoke to The Athletic, Monte McNair, not Vivek Ranadive, made the decision for the Sacramento Kings to remove Mike Brown as head coach. Given that the Kings have now had eight coaches in 12 years, the decision was first generally seen in the NBA as continuing Ranadive’s turbulent ownership of the team.
Last offseason, Brown and the Kings had a contentious contract extension talks. In 2023, the Kings were the third seed and missed the playoffs. According to reports, Ranadive became fixated on the Kings’ decline from the NBA’s top offensive efficiency team to 13th place. However, as it rose from 24th to 14th, Brown concentrated on strengthening their defense.
