Miami Heat guard Jimmy Butler suffered a right knee injury during the 105-104 play-in loss to the 76ers in Philadelphia.
The injury occurred on the last play of the first quarter when, attempting a layup on the counter-break, he fell down in pain after contact with Kelly Oubre Jr.
Butler, visibly in pain, said he would have to undergo an MRI on Thursday to assess the extent of the injury, fearing it might be a medial cruciate ligament (MCL) problem.
Despite the injury, Butler remained on the court, but ended the game with only 12 points in the remainder of the match, scoring 3 of 14 on the shot.
There is now doubt about his availability for Friday’s decisive game against the Chicago Bulls, which will determine who gets the eighth seed. “I hope I’m OK,” Butler commented, “but right now I can’t say that I am.” The Heat face the same situation as last year, playing at home for playoff access as the eighth seed.
