Coach Ettore Messina’s comment after Olimpia Milano’s defeat in Paris: “We got off to a bad start and we paid for it. After that we improved and brought the game back in balance but when we got to within four we made some mistakes for example a foul on a three-pointer at a crucial moment after a third period played well. We keep doing these errors while we should be more consistent.
We go home knowing that we did several good things despite the bad start and some problems, for example tonight it was obvious that Mirotic was struggling even though he wanted to be there for the team. Under these conditions it was not easy to play against such a fast team that performs at this pace. Obviously, TJ Shorts dominated the game. I’m impressed by his personality: seeing him even as an opponent is a pleasure. He has this change of pace, of direction, that is hard to contain, and then he always makes the right decisions. Even on defense you struggle to attack him because he is extremely fast and physically strong, then they have a good system that adapts quickly when you try to attack him in the low post. I am not surprised by Tiago Splitter: as he did as a player he handles pressure well, has always a good game plan and a consistent rotation. His team plays with enthusiasm and zero pressure.
The italian team is now 16-14 for the season: “We have four games left and everything is still possible. We are in the mix and we’ll use what we have to the end. Hopefully we could be healthier, especially Mirotic”.
TJ Shorts led Paris Basketball to an important with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 10 assists and 2 steals in 29 minutes.
