Zalgiris Kaunas has reached an agreement with the second rookie of the upcoming season. Matt Mitchell, an American who recently played for Besiktas Istanbul, will join the team on a 1+1 contract.
The 25-year-old, 199 cm tall forward spent last season in Turkey competing in the EuroCup.
“I’m glad to have the opportunity to come to Zalgiris. I chose to come here to get better under Andrea Trinchieri and his coaching staff. The goal is to win Championships and add trophies to Zalgiris collection,” said Mitchell.
The versatile player averaged 12.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists in the EuroCup last season.
In the Turkish league, Mitchell averaged 10.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2 assists per game.
“In the EuroCup, he was one of the most interesting players in his position and he has been on our radar for a while. We hope that his versatility and physical attributes will allow him to adapt quickly and make a name for himself in the EuroLeague,” said Zalgiris sport director Gediminas Navickas.
Earlier, Zalgiris also signed EuroCup’s best scorer Deividas Sirvydis
