Marco Baldi, managing director of Alba Berlin, commented on the German club’s historic decision to leave the EuroLeague Basketball competitions and move to FIBA’s BCL.
“By participating in the Basketball Champions League, we begin a new and exciting era and take into account the evolution of the European basketball landscape. We have a long tradition with EuroLeague and always want to play in the best possible competition in sporting terms.
However, recently the conditions for joining EuroLeague have changed dramatically. With our values and programme focused on economic sustainability, collaboration and the development of sport, we want to continue to shape the future of the European basketball ecosystem. We are confident that European competitions under the FIBA umbrella will develop strongly in the coming years and that is why we will participate in the Basketball Champions League.
