March Madness: Auburn, Duke, Houston, and Florida Lead NCAA Tournament Field

The Tigers earn the No. 1 overall seed, but Duke remains the title favorite

The 2025 NCAA Tournament field is set, with Auburn earning the No. 1 overall seed, while Duke (ACC), Houston (Big 12), and Florida (SEC) round out the top seeds in their respective regions.

Despite losing in the SEC Tournament semifinals, Auburn secured the top spot in the South Region, where Michigan State and Iowa State loom as key challengers. Duke (31-3) headlines the East Region, set to open play in Raleigh. ACC Player of the Year Cooper Flagg is expected to return from an ankle injury in time for the Blue Devils’ first-round game.

In the Midwest Region, Houston (30-4) will face SIU Edwardsville, aiming to extend its streak of four straight 30-win seasons. Meanwhile, Florida leads the West Region, where a potential second-round clash with defending champion UConn could shape the bracket early.

The SEC made history with a record 14 teams in the tournament, surpassing the Big East’s previous high of 11 in 2011. Meanwhile, the ACC placed just four teams, its worst showing since 2000. North Carolina barely made the field as a No. 11 seed, while Texas, despite 15 losses, tied an NCAA record for the most losses by an at-large team.

The tournament kicks off Tuesday with the First Four, followed by 32 first-round games on Thursday and Friday at sites across the country.
