Lonzo Ball made his long-awaited return to the court after more than two and a half years. As he checked into the game, the United Center crowd gave him a standing ovation, and Ball acknowledged them with a gesture. His last game was on January 14, 2022, and on Wednesday night, he played 15 minutes, scoring 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting in the Chicago Bulls’ preseason win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“I’m just happy to be back. It’s hard to put into words how it felt out there,” Ball said. “This is a moment I’ll never forget.”
Ball, who underwent three surgeries on his left knee, including a rare cartilage transplant in March 2023, reflected on his recovery: “It was a long process, but now it’s all behind me.”
On Wednesday, Ball displayed his versatility, hitting a corner three-pointer, recording a steal, and handing out an assist, proving he can still contribute effectively. Bulls coach Billy Donovan praised him: “He looked great, moved really well.”
Ball is focused on gradually getting back into NBA rhythm, aiming to play again in Friday’s preseason finale against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
