Zalgiris Kaunas was the protagonist of one of the EuroLeague’s big market shots, bringing Lonnie Walker IV to Lithuania. On the Triple Threat Show podcast, the Lithuanian club’s player talked about his summer and how coach Andrea Trinchieri convinced him to land in the EuroLeague.
Lonnie Walker’s words: “At the beginning of the summer I was convinced that I would get offers from the NBA, but it didn’t happen. In August the phone was still silent, after all the trades and the free agency market was practically over, either you get big money or a minimum contract, there is no middle ground. I got a 10-day contract with the Boston Celtics, so I tried to stick to my routine: go to the gym first, be ready. I did everything, but it wasn’t enough to get a contract for the season. Then there were offers from the EuroLeague, but they wouldn’t let me return to the NBA during the season if I got a call. I wasn’t interested in China. Then I got a call from Andrea Trinchieri, so I explained my position to him and he said: «The NBA is your place, I will do everything to get you back there». Zalgiris Kaunas agreed to put an NBA clause in my contract, which is still my priority. Especially because I have my family there and I want to be as close to them as possible, especially during the Christmas period”.
