Legendary Greek Basketball Figure Ioannis Ioannidis Passes Away at 78

Greek basketball is in mourning for the passing of Ioannis Ioannidis at the age of 78. Born in 1945 in Thessaloniki, he was a player, coach, and even a parliamentarian until 2012.

In his coaching career, Ioannidis won 12 national titles in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s with Aris and Olympiacos. He also secured six Greek Cups.

On several occasions, he served as the head coach of the national team, but Ioannidis is most notably associated with Aris, especially during the Galis-Giannakis era. With this team, he set an incredible streak of 80 undefeated games, spanning over 3 and a half years.
