The New York Knicks have launched a lawsuit against the Toronto Raptors and former employee Ikechukwu Azotam, accusing them of “unlawfully procuring and disclosing proprietary details.” According to the complaint, Azotam, who served the Knicks from 2020 to 2023, allegedly sent confidential files, including game strategies and video data, to the Raptors after being recruited by them in summer 2023.
The Knicks argue that Azotam misused his position, breaching confidentiality clauses. The files were reportedly accessed over 2,000 times by members of the Raptors. In response, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, the owners of the Raptors, denied any involvement and promised full cooperation.
The allegations came to light just a day after Azotam’s final day with the Knicks. The New York team is now seeking unspecified damages and an injunction against the Raptors from using the obtained information.
