Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd called Kyrie Irving’s season-ending ACL tear a “freak accident”, dismissing claims that his increased playing time contributed to the injury.
In the 10 games before getting hurt, Irving averaged 39.3 minutes per game, the most in the NBA during that span. However, Kidd was quick to refute any connection: “We want our stars to play. This isn’t supposed to be a rest league.
” Irving, who was averaging 24.7 points per game, had been Dallas’ most consistent player, leaving the team struggling for depth as they fight for a play-in spot without Anthony Davis and several other injured players.
