Juan Núñez has joined Barça from German club Ratiopharm Ulm. The 20-year-old guard (1.94 metres) is signing a three-year contract that takes him though to 30 June 2027 and took his medical and fitness tests on Friday morning.
Born in Madrid in 2004, he is a regular in the Spanish national team that recently qualified for the Paris Olympics. He may be young but he has excellent vision and is a very valuable addition to the side long with the two other signings already announced, Kevin Punter and Justin Anderson.
A product of the Real Madrid youth system, Núñez was MVP of the Junior EuroLeague before moving up to the senior team in 2020-21, playing 15 games including the final against Barça. To get more playing time, he then left for Ratiopharm Ulm, his first foreign experience.
Positive experience in Germany
He ended his second season in Germany with an average of 9.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists, and of 7.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4 assists in the playoffs. In the second tier Eurocup, he posted 10.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 5.7 assists.
Núñez has learned at Ratiopharm Ulm, and the German side has improved with him, winning the Bundesliga for the very first time by defeating Baskets Bonn in the final.
Núñez also tried his fortune in the NBA Draft, where he was a number 36 pick for the Indiana Pacers, although his rights were eventually transferred to the San Antonio Spurs.
