This was the message from the legendary Kentucky coach on X: «Ieri sera ho saputo che Alex ha sviluppato una malattia mentre giocava a basket in Europa. Uno dei migliori atleti e delle persone più gentili che abbia mai allenato… un brav’uomo! #BBN, raccogliamo le preghiere e mandiamole a lui!!!».

Poythress played for Calipari from 2012 to 2016, averaging 10 points and six rebounds in his senior season.
