Mazzulla took over the team's reins as interim coach at the beginning of the season

The Boston Celtics have announced the promotion of Joe Mazzulla, who becomes the 19th head coach in franchise history.

Mazzulla took over the team’s reins as interim coach at the beginning of the season after Ime Udoka’s suspension.

With him at the helm, the Celtics have won 42 of 59 games played, the league’s best record ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets.

Mazzulla signed a contract extension.
