Jimmy Butler reportedly confirmed he wants to leave Miami

Jimmy Butler has made it known that he will not exercise his player option this summer and wishes to be traded by the Miami Heat.

Heat wing Jimmy Butler met in person with president Pat Riley, as reported by ESPN. The player reportedly confirmed that he is not willing to renew at the end of the season, declining the 52.4 million player option for 2025/26, reiterating his desire to leave the franchise in a trade. Thus confirmed Butler’s long-suspended wishes. And denied, at the same time, rumors about his possible reinstatement at the end of the sanction. Butler has already missed six games, so Wednesday’s game against the Lakers will be the seventh and final game of that disqualification. According to ESPN there will be a new meeting later this week to discuss with Butler how to move forward.

According to several reports, the Heat have looked for trade possibilities with several franchises without being able to receive an attractive offer. The Heat are said to be looking for players who can help them win this season, as well as short-term contracts that will allow management to generate salary cap flexibility in the future. “The Heat have been talking to several teams about trade scenarios with Butler and have received offers, but have been hesitant to negotiate further, the sources said. Riley has shown no urgency in these negotiations as the trade deadline expires on Feb. 6,” The Athletic added.
