Thanks to the 39 points he scored against the Charlotte Hornets, Luka Doncic reached 2341 in the regular season, a new single-season record for the Dallas Mavericks.
Doncic is also the league’s top scorer with an average of 33.9 points per game.
Last night’s triple-double is the 21st of his season and 77th in his career.
“It’s incredible what Luka has done,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said. “He’s going to rewrite the record books for the Mavericks and also for the NBA. For him to pass Mark is incredible because Mark is a legend for the Mavs. It shows what Luka has done and how much better he has gotten year to year.”
As a result of Doncic and his teammates’ excellent regular season finish (15 Ws in the last 17), the Mavs earned direct access to the playoffs without having to go through the Play-In.
“We sure need some rest,” Doncic said. “We are playing some of our best basketball of the season on the defensive end as well right now. That is the key for us.”
No record is safe when LD is on the floor 😤
