Ja Morant goes down, Grizzlies collapse: another playoff injury for Memphis’ star

Ja Morant was leading the way for the Grizzlies in a dominant first half, helping build a 29-point lead over the Thunder. But everything changed with just over three minutes left before halftime, when Morant took a hard fall on his left hip after colliding mid-air with Lu Dort. He tried to stay in the game to shoot his free throws but was visibly in pain and soon headed to the locker room — not to return.

Without Morant, Memphis fell apart offensively, scoring just 31 points in the entire second half, and saw Oklahoma City pull off a historic comeback. It’s yet another playoff injury for Morant, who has struggled to stay healthy in the postseason throughout his career. When he’s on the floor, Memphis competes. When he’s not, the collapse is often dramatic.

Before leaving the game, Morant had 15 points and 5 assists in 19 minutes. The team later confirmed a left hip contusion, and his status for Game 4 — set for Saturday night — is uncertain. With the series now 3-0 in favor of OKC, the Grizzlies may be looking at an early exit without their star.
